The Greek Pavilion at the 14th Biennale
The Greek participation in the 14th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, entitled Tourism Landscapes: Remaking Greece was directed and curated by Greece’s National Commissioner for the Biennale, Architect and Professor Giannis Aisopos. It explores the role of tourism as a vehicle for modernising Greece through the emergence of constructed tourism landscapes: hotels and resorts, organised beaches, archaeological sites and museums, public space designs and infrastructure facilities. Moreover, it focuses on the concurrent (re)shaping of Greek national identity, enhanced through contact with the other, with foreign, new and global elements, which tourism – as an activity – presupposes.
